•
Quinn Cook was brought in to the Los Angeles Lakers organization in the 2019 offseason. He was part of a flurry of moves the team was making to help improve shooting. The team got him on a two-year $6 million deal, with the 2020-21 season partially guaranteed at $1 million.
Cook has made a career out of spacing the floor, he’s never lit up the scoreboard but he’s shot the ball at a good clip. He is one of the few that has been able to hang around the league as an undrafted free agent. It’s good to see guys like that making the most of the opportunity.
He has shot at a 40.7% clip from 3-pointer in his career which is a very good number. He has done that on 2.5 attempts per game and at 15 minutes per game. He has played in 165 career games and has made 169 in his career, so just over a tick of one per game.
The Lakers will need to get better to repeat in 2021, they can’t expect to stay constructed the same and get the same results. The West will get even better this year and Rob Pelinka will need to get to work immediately improving the roster.
The Lakers were able to win the 2020 championship with inconsistent play around their superstar duo of LeBron and AD. So they will need to find guys to help gel around them and lighten the workloads of each.
We take a look at the buy, sell and trade stock of Cook. Making a case for each of them as his guarantee date approaches.

Next: Buy: Guaranteeing his contract

(Photo by Ashley Landis – Pool/Getty Images) – Los Angeles Lakers

3. $3,000,000 is a steal for a shooter?

Cook can space the floor very well. The Lakers were not very good at shooting the ball last year either. They ranked 21st at 34.9% per night.
This offseason Pelinka will look to equip LeBron and AD with more spacing. It’s not a healthy dose of basketball to play heroics. It works because the duo is so good, but some help will take them further and help down the stretch.
At $3 million it is a good deal to get a guy who shoots over 40% from his career from 3-point range. Although 36.5% last season was his career-low by quite a bit. That is still an above-average clip and better than most of the Lakers roster.
Cook has the opportunity to make this contract look like a steal. He could get more opportunities on the floor with quite a few wings hitting the open market. If he finds consistency he could pay dividends and hit shots for this team.
With the possibility of Danny Green getting traded as well, the Lakers could ultimately replace a $15.5 million guy with a $3 million dollar guy. As the team looks to stay flexible with the cap to make other moves and get out of some contracts.

Next: Sell: Not worth the amount in limited minutes

(Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images)

2. Veteran minimum player might be better?

Here’s where things start to get interesting. The Lakers for the foreseeable future are a destination that will attract veterans. Veterans looking for a ring that have made plenty of money in their career.
That leaves wide open the possibility of veteran minimum contracts for guys. Players that want to win right now and getting a larger deal isn’t the priority. With those contracts being less than what Cook makes, the Lakers might be better going that route.
You can also add in the fact the team has the non-taxpayer mid-level exception and also the bi-annual exception. They can use both of those to help the team with shooting and scoring options. With Cook not providing much else this could prove a good route.
So bowing out of the $3 million owed to Cook the Lakers can let him out onto the market. They will have plenty of options to replace him with either a much more proven player or a cheaper option. Which they need at this time on their bench.

Next: Trade: Get some value back in return

(Photo by Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE via Getty Images)

1. Does he carry any value in a trade?

Here is the last option, which would be most ideal for the Lakers. You’re not going to get a lottery pick for him so take out your James Wiseman fantasies.
Value will be up-and-down and will most likely be tapped with restrictions. Teams do this so that they don’t lose a pick that is too high. Such as lottery-protected, top-30 protected, etc.
There are teams out there that desire shooting, that could use Cook off the bench. At $3 million his contract easy to absorb and teams with multiple second-round picks could be inclined to bite. He also provides a veteran that could help younger guys.
It the Lakers can get a top-40 protected pick out of him that would be great. The Lakers would shed Cook’s contract to get another player that fits the same bill and even more at a cheaper price. They can value their exceptions more in the shooting department.
Cook was also a non-factor for the Lakers title run, as he didn’t play at all except for garbage time in the playoffs. This is the best scenario for the team.

Next: Trade packages involving Danny Green and Kyle Kuzma

Get a protected pick that you can use as a small asset in the future and create a small trade exception to use at the trade deadline.
;(function ($) $(document).ready(function () try tpsInstance = new tps.createSlideshow(tpsOptions); catch(e) );(jQuery)); (function () // create the elements and set all attributes:var conversationScript = document.createElement('script');conversationScript.setAttribute('async', 'true');conversationScript.setAttribute('src', ' _LbLdKlix');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-module', 'spotim-launcher');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-url', ' -angeles-lakers-buy-sell-trade-quinn-cook-stock/');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-id', '118819');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-multi-instance', true);conversationScript.setAttribute('data-article-tags', 'Los Angeles Lakers, Quinn Cook');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-url', ' -angeles-lakers-buy-sell-trade-quinn-cook-stock/#!');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-identifier', '118819 =118819');// append the elements to the container:var container = document.querySelector('#comments-wrapper-118819');container.appendChild(conversationScript);)(); Top StoriesLake Show Life 2 yearsLA to LA: 3 ways a LaMarcus Aldridge trade could help the Lakers

Owning a sports club is way too expensive for most people, but if you still want to get a piece of the pie, try investing in these sports stocks. It may seem like these companies are swimming in money because professional athletes get multi-million dollar contracts and sports teams boast ridiculous valuations. But the reality is that just like any other company, the equipment makers, broadcasters and sponsors of professional sports face fierce competition. Here are some tips to keep in mind when investing in sport stocks:

Some sports are played year-round, but are only popular at certain times of the year. Getting to know the schedule, especially when the playoffs take place can give you a leg up on the competition. For example, late fall or early winter might be a good time to look at an NBA stock, and around September might be a good time to look at an NFL stock. Contrarily, the off-season might be a good time to buy depending on sponsorship deals or player events.
