Where To Buy Ski Gear Online
Another ski season is upon us, and to help navigate the confusing online environment, we have put together a list of our favorite websites for buying ski gear. All the sites below are reputable companies that we purchase from ourselves. In creating the list, we prioritized factors like having a wide variety of inventory, an easy-to-use website, free shipping, and a good return policy. Sales tax can be a significant factor on expensive orders, so we also have included information on that topic. Finally, we would like to note that when you make a purchase through the links below, we receive a small commission, helping us continue to review and write about ski gear. For our favorite picks in each category, see our detailed ski gear reviews.

The Backcountry site itself is user-friendly and easy to navigate, but we would prefer a greater level of detail in their product specifications. As a result, we often find ourselves looking elsewhere (including at Evo) for a more intuitive site experience. Overall, however, Backcountry remains one of our favorite retailers with a consistently great selection, excellent customer service, and a solid return/exchange policy.Visit Backcountry.com
This category includes your primary ski gear: skis, bindings, and boots. All retailers on this list carry the popular all-mountain skis from top brands, but moving outside of those items reveals some variation. In ranking the retailers, we placed an emphasis on consistency of stock as well as carrying a good assortment of products. Backcountry excels in the high-end market, including ski equipment for alpine touring and deep powder, while REI has a large stock of resort gear. Specialized snowsports retailers like Evo have the widest selection covering nearly every category, including skis for youngsters and park and pipe.

They sorted me out with a new backcountry setup, and couldn't have been more helpful. Answered all my questions about tech bindings and boots. They obviously use the gear, and seriously know their stuff. They tracked down some hard to find items, and then got my gear sorted and in the post the same afternoon I ordered it. So glad I found this place!
There are endless options when it comes to buying ski gear in this day and age. Between the infinite websites and numerous brick-and-mortar ski shops that litter every ski town, it is hard to decide which route to go, so which one should you choose?
Buying your equipment online and in person, both have their advantages and drawbacks, but the route you choose should depend on your level of knowledge surrounding ski gear. Those who are new to the sport should buy in person, while those who are more well-versed in skiing can opt for either.
Heading down to your local mom-and-pop shop offers a level of personalization that buying ski gear online cannot. Brick-and-mortar stores are full of knowledgeable experts that are usually happy to help you find the perfect gear based on your size and skiing ability.
If you have never purchased ski gear before, then this is the way to go. Retailers will be able to size your foot to the perfect boot, show you how long your skis should be, and help you pick out the correct length of the pole so that your next ski outing goes off without a hitch.
Purchasing your ski gear online is undoubtedly the easiest way to buy new or used gear and have it shipped straight to your doorstep. Why drive to multiple stores looking for a specific set of skis in your size when you can find them and have them shipped with only a few clicks?
Buying ski gear online is especially convenient when you know exactly what you want and what size you want it in. With the endless possibilities that the internet offers come the drawback of being overwhelmed with having too many options to choose from.
Skiing is one of the most expensive winter sports out there, so saving money wherever you can is always a plus. Larger online companies are able to buy ski gear in bulk at a lower price which allows them to pass the savings on to the consumer.
There is no definite answer to whether buying skis in person or online is better, it all depends on your particular level of knowledge and how much you value convenience over a personalized experience.
NewToSki.com is where over 1 million people a year come to learn more about skiing. I share everything I wish someone had told me when I was learning to ski. My name is Simon & I've been skiing since 2005. This winter, our family is taking a 3-month camper ski trip across the Alps. If you enjoy our articles, please join the free email club. Top-of-the-line gear is worth the premium, but the expense can be a serious barrier to the sport for beginners. But don't be overwhelmed; just channel all those ski bums who live the dream on minimum-wage jobs.
Also, be wary of any posting that does not specifically show you piece of gear you are buying. If someone only posts a stock picture of a pair of skis and cites minor damage, demand pictures of the damage before you buy anything.
Unfortunately, supply and demand issues have hit online retailers as hard as brick and mortar stores. The silver lining is that online stores can register a request and alert you the second a product comes back in stock. Depending on the site, you can also get all the information you need that a brick-and-mortar store would normally give you. Take this website, for example.
Within a few minutes, I can size myself for boots, skis, and accessories. A few more minutes, and I can understand not only why the sizing is important but what else I need to consider before making a purchase. With that type of information upfront, online shopping can be so much simpler to navigate.
As long as you possess the critical information about sizing, which you can often find online, buying on the internet can be really easy. If you crave the personable contact of a ski tech who speaks from experience, then an in-store experience holds value for you. In either scenario, your active participation in the process will help guarantee a better ski purchase.

Backstory: I moved to Florida about 8 years ago from the Northeast. I brought my skis with me (Atomic BetaCarv 9.18) which are good on Northeast hardpack/ice but are pretty horrific in crud or powder. The last few trips I have taken out west I have rented but a week of high-end demo skis isn't that cheap and it is getting to the point where buying skis every few years if I take them on 2 trips a year just makes more financial sense. The problem is living in Florida I have two local shops that do sell ski gear (!) but their prices and selection are pretty horrendous. 041b061a72
